The old wall at this Lee's Summit home had seen better days. It was leaning, losing its footing, and honestly just one bad rain away from giving out completely. That's the thing about retaining walls - when they start to go, they don't get better on their own. We tore the whole thing out and started fresh.

Before we set a single block, we made sure the base and drainage were done right. That's where most failing walls go wrong in the first place - poor compaction underneath and no way for water to escape. Skip those steps and you're just buying yourself the same problem a few years down the road. We don't cut corners on the stuff you can't see.

Once the foundation was solid, we rebuilt using clean new block that actually complements the home. The curved sections give it a finished, intentional look rather than something that just got slapped together. We also tied in steps coming up from the walkway, so getting from the driveway level up to the landscaped beds and entry area is safer and a lot more natural.

The landscaping beds got cleaned up and the gravel was reset to work with the new wall layout. Stepping stones lead through the lower bed, giving the whole front side of the home a more polished, put-together feel. It went from a liability to something this homeowner can actually be proud of.

A wall like this does two jobs at once - it holds the grade and it adds real curb appeal. When those two things work together, the whole front of the property looks sharper. That's the kind of result we're always after.
