This Kansas City property needed a fresh start. The old landscaping wasn't doing the house any favors - no clean lines, no real structure, nothing that made the home feel pulled together from the street. So we came in and redid the whole thing from scratch.

The biggest piece of this job was the retaining wall work. We built block walls along the front and sides of the home that create a real sense of structure and separation between the lawn and the bed areas. The curved sections around the side of the house were especially important - they follow the natural grade and give the whole yard a clean, finished edge that ties everything together.

Once the walls were set, we filled the beds with decorative rock. It's a smart, low-maintenance choice for beds like these. No watering, no weeding every weekend, and it still looks sharp. The lighter river rock near the front columns and the darker rock along the side complement the home's exterior tones without fighting for attention.

What we love about this kind of work is how much it changes the feel of a property. A well-built retaining wall isn't just decorative - it keeps soil where it belongs, controls drainage, and gives the yard a defined structure that holds up for years. Pair that with the right ground cover and you end up with something that looks intentional rather than thrown together.

The house itself has great architectural character. Our goal was simple - build landscaping that actually frames it properly instead of working against it. Clean borders, solid walls, and the right materials go a long way toward making a home feel more polished from the curb.
