Bullet Edging and Rock Beds Give This Smithville Backyard a Finished Look

Sometimes a yard just needs that last piece of the puzzle. The bones are already there - the deck, the fence, the lawn - but without defined edges and clean borders, the whole thing feels unfinished. That's exactly where this Smithville backyard was sitting before we came back out.

We installed bullet edging around the entire back of the house and filled the beds with matching rock. The edging follows the natural curve of the foundation line all the way around the deck base and along the side of the house, giving every section a clean, intentional border. It's a simple detail, but it's the kind of thing that ties the whole yard together.

The rock fill under and around the deck does more than just look good. It covers a large area that would otherwise be a maintenance headache - mowing under a deck isn't fun, and bare dirt under there tends to erode and get muddy. Rock handles that problem while also giving the space a polished, low-maintenance finish.

Matching the edging material and rock style throughout the yard is something we pay close attention to. When everything is consistent from one side of the house to the other, the landscaping reads as intentional rather than pieced together.
